Yesterday Joel preached from 1 Samuel 27:1-28:2. The title was, “Breaking Point” and it was all about David’s failure. He just gave up and went over to belong to the Philistines.
We’re all tempted to give up being obedient to God, especially when circumstances go against us, be it in our work life, family life, or even in the challenges of just being a Christian. David makes a huge mistake because he relies on his understanding and not on God.
But the solution is to stop believing lies (the ‘sermons in our heads’), put faith in God’s Truth and promises instead, remind ourselves of what God has already done for us, and trust ourselves each day to Jesus. God knows that we will fail, but our failure should lead us back to the cross, where God took our failures on Himself. Instead of our lives being characterised by our failure, they’re characterised by His Grace.
