Around 350 women gathered at the Clarendon Centre a few weeks ago for the CCK Women’s day. It was fantastic morning which saw women of all ages coming together, expectant to meet with God and ready to learn from and encourage one another. The lovely Katie Virgo was our host for the day and she gave a brief welcome before Jules Burt and the band kick-started the day with a time of worship. It was an amazing time spent in God’s presence, with several women coming to the front to share words of scripture. Unfortunately, the worship time had to come to an end, but there was an excited buzz in the room as we split off into three groups to attend our first session. One of the main goals of the day was to bring specific teaching to target the different stages of life that women might be in, and each talk catered for that so well. Sue Hosier spoke from the heart on ‘moving on positively’- specifically aimed at those women dealing with ‘empty nest’ syndrome. Sarah Pooley led a great talk on being single with purpose, and a third was led by Karen Boon who looked at Noah’s wife- exploring the faith-rooted choices she made and what we can take from these today. A short break after the first session gave us a great opportunity to meet and chat to people we didn’t know and to hear other’s feedback on the first session. Everyone I spoke to massively enjoyed the talk they attended and several women said they had just felt so encouraged hearing other women’s experiences and getting practical advice and biblical teaching on how to deal with certain hardships. We were also treated to a scrumptious Krispy Kreme doughnut to enjoy with our coffee - a big well done to the team for choosing to have these - they were a talking point the whole day! Then we heard from our Lead Elder, as Joel Virgo braved a room full of women to give a powerful talk about the Biblical woman, Hannah, from 1 Samuel. Throughout an incredibly painful and difficult time in her life, Hannah found the strength to pray fervently, year upon year, and really ‘got in the ring’ with God by showing amazing faithfulness in her determination and patience. It was an incredibly challenging talk but we all emerged encouraged by the story of Hannah and motivated to battle in prayer. The second session offered three more talks for us to choose from. One was by our host herself as Katie Virgo, mother of four, gave a talk on how to be God’s agent when raising kids. Jackie Harland, visiting from City Coast Church, gave a fantastic talk on being a woman of God in the workplace and Claire Coggan spoke on being stirred in faith by our sisters at CCK - where several women took to the stage to share their experiences and advice. One of the aims of the day was for younger women to learn from older women and this was really evident throughout the morning. Not only was the teaching fantastic, but time was always put aside at the end of each session to bring it back to Him and respond in prayer which was so pivotal and fantastic to be a part of. It was a privilege to attend such a great morning of solid teaching, intense worship and real fellowship – bring on the next women’s day! Some of the talks are now available to listen to online, so if you couldn’t make it to the day, or just want to listen again, check those out here.
