Singles

Recent statistics show that the number of singles in the world is growing; and it’s certainly the case with singles within the Church. It may surprise you to read that despite the appropriate and healthy emphasis on marriage and family life at CCK, approximately 50% of the membership is made up of people who are not currently in a married state.

The term ‘single’ covers a huge range of circumstances and experiences: widows and widowers of various ages; divorcees; single parents; absent fathers; never-marrieds; older teens and students…

Obviously this sort of disparate (NB not desperate) group fits together only loosely. One of the key factors in being a successful single is being integrated into families and feeling a part of what’s going on. It can be all too easy to emphasise the delights of being able to take time alone or to mix only with groups of like-minded people. Somehow, you can end up finding yourself isolated from all the fun of other people’s children and homes and quality cooking.

This perhaps goes some way towards explaining why we don’t have a specific singles ministry or Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts’ Club Pastor within CCK.
