Social Action

Any active and effective church must be thoroughly involved with its local community. At CCK we have some projects that are city-wide and others that are much more localised, serving local communities through various forms of social action.

a wide variety of action

We have Kidz Klub, a high activity, Saturday morning club for children in school years 6 – 10. They are bussed to our building in Clarendon Villas from estates around the city. During the week the family of each child is visited by KK team members and great relationships have been developed. This has resulted in further opportunities to help a number of families with pressing social needs. KK, together with the ‘Big Breakthrough Club’, a local initiative in Whitehawk, are now working with a large number of children across the city.

We have a weekly Friends First drop-in for the homeless and disadvantaged at our Clarendon Centre building in Brighton.

The supported house in Hove is for those attempting to make a fresh start in life after addiction problems, homelessness and emotional trauma.

Locally, we have a Mother & Toddler group in Central Brighton, called Shining Stars, meeting at the Clarendon Centre.

A new initiative, CityLight, is researching the needs among women sex-workers in the Brighton area with a view to establishing some form of support.

Alternatives
is a pregnancy counselling service for women, (and their partners) facing abortion or needing post abortion counselling. More info: click here.

New Horizons is a group for the more mature age group, which meets on Fridays at our Clarendon Centre building.

This is by no means the full list of our social action projects but helps to provide a flavour of the broad range activities in which we are involved across Brighton & Hove. See also www.urbanimpact.org.uk

All that we do in the community is a practical expression of our Christian faith. Jesus had a passion for people; he recognised their needs and met them. We want to reflect that attitude across our city where people in need are looking for help, support and relationship.
