2 Timothy 1:1-5 - The High Calling of Being a Mum

It was great to honour the mothers in our church on Mothers’ Day by encouraging them from the word of God. Being a mother can be hard work in many different ways. But be encouraged, it is a high calling, a Godly calling, worthy of our best efforts. It is therefore worth prayerful consideration, not planning your children around what is convenient for you but submitting the decision before God.

The apostle Paul credits the sincere faith of his good friend Timothy to the Godly upbringing of his mum Eunice and his grandma Lois. Eunice and Lois knew Jesus for themselves and knew this was the greatest thing they could pass onto their son. Jesus is still the greatest need for our children today and we should diligently disciple them. By raising Godly children we can leave a legacy in the next generation, of Christ exalting worshippers, long after we are dead and gone.

Here are three sources of help for the task of mothering (and fathering)
  1. Get to know other Godly parents who are doing a good job and are further on than you, there’s loads of them at CCK!
  2. Read the amazing parenting booklet by PJ and Ashleigh Smyth, its only 30 pages long. Copy and paste the following URL into your internet browser to download it FREE! http://godfirst.co.za/resources/?s=parent
  3. Get to know the best parent of all, Father God. As you get to know him and the way he parents you, you will be better equipped to parent your children. For example, when you receive grace from God you can be gracious to your children. Also remember that God loves and cares for your children more than you will ever be able to, so keep giving them to him in prayer.
